An Easter morning treasure hunt is a fun activity for children of all ages and for both believers and non-believers in the Easter Bunny. This activity works with single child families as well as multiple sibling families.
Supplies you will need:
* Note paper, markers and Easter stamps (optional)
* Dollar store items (stickers, jewelry and/or small, inexpensive toys your child will enjoy)
* Foil wrapped mini chocolate eggs
* Easter surprise (stuffed animal or special toy)
* Ideas for clues (these come from your imagination)
Wait until all of your little hunters are fast asleep and then collaborate with your partner to write up clues for each of your children.
For a fun filled morning, each child should have about six (6) personal notes, written at their age level and ability.
Each individual note/clue should be:
- numbered (so clues are found in sequence)
- written in unfamiliar handwriting (so the child won't know who wrote it)
- contain the child's name and some personal information (to show that the Easter Bunny knows who the child is)
- decorated with designs and Easter stamps
Example: Dear Johnny, I've noticed that you love to find things around the house. That is why the Easter Bunny is leaving you a couple of clues to help you to find your Easter Jackpot. You will find your second clue in your favorite reading area. Good luck. I hope you enjoy the treats I have left you.
The first clue should be placed somewhere on the child's bed, where it won't be knocked on the floor or hidden. With the clue, leave a couple of foil wrapped chocolate eggs and a dollar store item (i.e. stickers). The clue should give a hint where the child will find his next clue.
The following clue is left in the exact spot your last note suggested the child go. Continue leaving treats with the notes. The final note is left with the child's jackpot and a congratulatory note is left along with the Easter Bunny's best wishes for a happy Easter.
Example: Johnny, I am so proud of you. It didn't take you long at all to solve all the clues I left for you. Here is your reward...your Easter jackpot. I hope you like what I left for you. Have a wonderful Easter and I will see you next year. Love, the Easter Bunny XOX
By creating this treasure hunt, your child will have the challenge of following directions and solving written clues. With each child having his own personal notes and treats, you have eliminated the potential of one child finding more chocolates than another sibling has. An added bonus is that this fun family activity can be continued when the children no longer believe in the Easter Bunny. It can also include parental participation, thereby involving everyone in the fun.
